The few songs I remember from the past few Madden soundtracks have all been percussive mid-tempo hip-hop with a great deal of emphasis on the rapper's lyric delivery. The majority of songs on the past few Madden soundtracks simply don't have these qualities. The songs they use generally have high instrumental energy and a wide variety of sounds - be it electric guitars, electronic samples, or well-known hip-hop beats. They lean mainstream, sure, but I think they hit a wide range of musical styles, and little of what they use sounds anything like the Madden soundtrack. If I can offer a criticism of Madden's soundtrack that isn't just "it's not the music I enjoy listening to" - it simply does not sound like the licensed music we hear during NFL broadcasts.įOX, CBS, NBC, and ESPN all do a pretty good job sampling a diverse range of popular artists for their various stings coming in and out of commercials, replays, and breakdown video packages. Man it was amazing having the Sam Spence music to listen to in the franchise hub. Because it was in Madden on 10 and 11 (and I think 12) and was removed starting with 13. How we do not have NFL films music anymore is really upsetting.but I wonder if it has to do with the Sam Spence estate being crazy about royalties ($$$$) and wanting a crazy amount of money for it. It is gone for next gen consoles because of Microsofts policy on third party MP3 music inside games.
